How can we help you?

Answers to the questions we're asked most often, using the exact wording you see in the app. If yours isn't here, write to us and someone on the team will reply.

Getting started

What you need for your first week.

What is Petite Liste, exactly?

Petite Liste starts from a simple conviction: you shouldn't have to read the flyer anymore. Every week, the app goes through your stores' deals for you, suggests recipes that happen to be well priced, then builds your grocery list from the ones you keep.

You add your recipes, we take care of the rest.

How do I create my account?

Creating an account takes less than a minute.

  1. Open the app and tap Create my account.
  2. Pick your method: email address, Apple or Google.
  3. Enter your first name when the app asks What's your name?

Your first name is only used to greet you on the home screen. It appears nowhere else.

Can I try the app without an account?

Yes. A guided tour walks you through the home screen, the recipes and the list without asking for anything.

An account becomes necessary as soon as you want to check off ingredients and keep your lists from one week to the next: that's what lets you find your data again if you switch devices.

How do I choose my stores?

Everything starts here: the recipes and deals you see depend entirely on the banners you select.

  1. On the home screen, find the Where do you shop? section.
  2. Tap the edit link next to it.
  3. Select one or more banners, then tap Done.

Change them as often as you like: suggestions are recalculated right away.

Which devices does the app run on?

Petite Liste is built for iPhone and available on the App Store. The version you're running is shown at the bottom of My settings.

The layout isn't optimized for iPad yet, and there is no web version of the app.

How is the app organized?

Three tabs at the bottom of the screen, no more.

  1. Home gathers your savings, your suggestions for the week and your stores.
  2. My recipes is the catalogue: this is where you choose what you'll be eating.
  3. My list holds My menu and My grocery list, the one you take to the store.

Every setting sits behind the icon at the top of the home screen, under My settings.

My recipes

Deciding what to eat without losing your evening.

How do I find a recipe?

Open the My recipes tab. The recipes at the top are the ones most worth your while this week, given your stores and your tastes.

To look for something specific, tap the search button and type your idea.

What are the filters for?

They narrow the catalogue down to what you actually feel like cooking. Four families are available: protein or base, type of dish, time and cuisine.

The sort menu changes the ranking: For you favours your tastes, Deals highlights the biggest savings, Price shows the cheapest first.

The Reset button clears every filter at once.

What does the savings amount on a recipe mean?

It's the gap between what the recipe costs at regular price and what it costs once this week's deals in your stores are taken into account.

In other words: what this recipe saves you compared with a week where you'd have cooked it without looking at the flyers.

What do the deal levels mean?

It's our way of showing the quality of a deal at a glance, without comparing numbers. The scale runs from a small deal up to an exceptional one, and a Super deal badge flags the opportunities you only see a few times a season.

Forty percent off an expensive staple matters more than ten percent off a side item: the scale accounts for both the size of the discount and the usual price of the product.

How do I favourite a recipe?

Double-tap the recipe card and a short confirmation appears.

In search mode, the favourites-only option brings you back to your selection.

How do I change the number of servings?

Open the recipe and adjust the servings. The quantities on your grocery list are recalculated automatically.

If you're usually the same number at the table, set it once in My settings, then My preferences.

How do I add a recipe to my list?

Tap the add-to-list button on the card or in the recipe itself. The recipe joins My menu and all its ingredients land in My grocery list.

Why don't I see any recipes?

Nine times out of ten, no store is selected and the app shows No store selected. Go back to the home screen and pick at least one banner under Where do you shop?

Active filters can also hide everything. Tap Reset to start from the full catalogue again.

My menu and my list

From planning all the way to the checkout.

What's the difference between My menu and My grocery list?

My menu holds the recipes you've kept for the week. My grocery list is the consequence: every ingredient you need, grouped and ready to check off in the store.

Change the menu and the list follows. You never have to copy anything over.

How do I check off ingredients while shopping?

Tap an ingredient as you drop it in the cart. The savings counter updates live.

Once everything is checked, the list switches to cooking mode and shows Shopping done — nice!

How do I remove a recipe from my menu?

Swipe the recipe to the left, then tap Remove. Its ingredients leave the list, except those shared with another recipe on the menu.

What are non-discounted ingredients?

They're the items in your recipes that aren't on sale this week, plus anything you add yourself. They appear in their own section at the bottom of the list.

The app asks Where do you buy your non-discounted ingredients? so it can group them in the right place and spare you trips between stores.

How do I add something that isn't in a recipe?

Tap the + button on My list to open the add-an-ingredient screen.

Search for your product, or browse deals by category and by store. An item with no deal can be added too: it joins your non-discounted ingredients.

How do I share my list with someone?

In the My grocery list section, tap the share option. The app produces a document you can text, email or print.

It's a frozen copy, handy when someone else does the shopping. It isn't yet a list two people check off at the same time.

How do I mark a recipe as cooked?

Once the shopping is done, swipe a recipe in My menu to mark it as cooked.

It's a way to keep track of your meals, nothing more: the status has no effect on your savings, which are counted as soon as the list is archived. Your past lists do show each recipe as Prepared or Not prepared.

When everything has been cooked, the app offers to discover new recipes or to start again with an empty list.

How do I start a new week?

Tap the new-list option at the top of My list, or choose to start again with an empty list after cooking.

It also happens on its own: when the new week's deals arrive, your previous list is archived as soon as you open the app, and a blank one takes its place.

Nothing is lost. You'll find every week under My settings, then My lists, along with the savings you made.

How is the savings amount calculated?

For every recipe on your menu and every discounted product you add, the app compares the regular price with the sale price, adjusts for the number of servings, then adds up the differences.

The total moves into your history the moment the list is archived: either because you checked off every ingredient, or automatically when the following week's deals arrive.

What does the total on the home screen represent?

It adds up the savings from every week you've archived since the start of the calendar year.

The current week isn't included yet: it joins the total as soon as its list is archived.

Where can I find my past lists?

Under My settings, open My lists. Your weeks are listed from the current one backwards, with the amount saved and the status of each recipe.

Deals and flyers

Where the prices come from and how often they change.

Which stores are covered?

Six banners found across Quebec: IGA, Metro, Provigo, Super C, Walmart and Maxi.

Select the ones you actually shop at; that's what makes the suggestions accurate.

How often are deals updated?

Every week, following the flyers, which change on Thursday at most banners.

Open the app early in the week and you'll find a completely refreshed menu.

Where do the prices come from?

From the flyers published by the grocery chains themselves. We collect them, normalize them and match them to recipe ingredients.

In-store prices remain the reference: a printing error, a store-specific promotion or an out-of-stock item can create a gap. The price at the register always has the final word.

Why doesn't a deal I saw in store appear in the app?

Several reasons are possible: the promotion is specific to one location, it was announced in store without appearing in the flyer, or the product doesn't match any ingredient in our recipes.

Check as well that the banner is among your selected stores: the app only shows deals from the ones you kept.

Is a deal missing week after week? Write to us — those reports are what improve our coverage.

Why aren't some deals tied to a recipe?

Discounted toilet paper doesn't belong in any recipe, and that's fine. Those products stay reachable from the add-an-ingredient screen, where you can browse deals aisle by aisle: produce, meat, dairy and so on.

Notifications

Few, but useful.

Which notifications will I get?

Three kinds, each controlled separately.

  1. Recipes for you: a suggestion when a recipe is really worth it.
  2. Your list is waiting: a reminder if you started shopping without finishing.
  3. Exceptional deals: an item on your list at a super deal.
How many notifications per week?

Two or three at most. It's a rule we hold ourselves to: if there's nothing worth telling you this week, we'd rather stay quiet.

How do I turn off just one of them?

Go to My settings, then Notifications: each type has its own switch. Turning off Exceptional deals doesn't affect your recipe suggestions.

I'm not getting any notifications. What should I do?

The system permission is most likely denied. The Notifications screen in the app then offers to open your iOS settings so you can restore it.

Next, check that the switches are on inside the app, and that your iPhone's Focus mode isn't holding Petite Liste back.

How do I turn everything off at once?

In iOS Settings, open Notifications, select Petite Liste and turn the permission off. You can switch it back on at any time.

Subscription and billing

Trial, plans, cancellation and refunds.

How does the 30-day free trial work?

For 30 days you get everything: unlimited suggestions, the full list, complete deal details.

No card is required up front and nothing charges automatically at the end. You then choose whether to subscribe or carry on with the free version.

What can I do once the trial ends?

The free version stays usable: you get five recipe suggestions a week, and your list shows its first ten ingredients — Grocery list (10 ingredients).

Beyond that, the app tells you how many ingredients are hidden and offers to unlock the full list. Nothing is deleted: everything reappears the day you subscribe.

What are the plans and prices?

The Solo plan is $4.17 a month, billed $49.99 a year. The Family plan is $2.22 a month per person, billed $79.99 a year, and includes three accounts.

Both give you unlimited suggestions, the full grocery list, complete deal details and recommendations based on your tastes.

The prices shown in the app at the time of purchase are the ones that apply.

How does the Family plan work?

It includes three independent accounts: each person keeps their own recipes, list and preferences, much like a family music subscription.

From My subscription, tap the invite option. The screen always shows how many seats are in use.

How do I subscribe?

Open My settings, then My preferences, then My subscription. You'll see your current plan and the available options.

Payment goes through your Apple account: no banking details ever pass through us.

How do I cancel my subscription?

Since Apple manages the subscription, cancellation happens in iOS.

  1. Open your iPhone's Settings and tap your name at the top.
  2. Choose Subscriptions.
  3. Select Petite Liste, then Cancel Subscription.

You keep full access until the end of the period you've already paid for. No data is deleted: you simply move to the free version.

How do I restore a subscription I already paid for?

In My subscription, tap Restore my subscription. Make sure you're signed in to the Apple account used for the purchase.

This is the step to take after switching iPhones or reinstalling the app.

I paid, but the app still shows the free version.

Start with Restore my subscription in My subscription. If nothing changes, quit the app completely and reopen it: Apple's confirmation sometimes takes a few minutes.

If it still doesn't clear up, write to us and attach the purchase confirmation you received from Apple. We'll restore your access.

How do I request a refund?

Because purchases are handled by Apple, refunds go through Apple. Visit reportaproblem.apple.com, sign in with your Apple account and select the purchase.

Write to us as well: if the problem comes from the app, we'd rather know and fix it.

Account, language and data

Your settings, and what we do with your information.

How do I change the app's language?

Under My settings, open Language and pick your choice. The app is available in French and English.

How do I edit my food preferences?

Open My settings, then My preferences. There you set how many people are at the table, whether young children are eating with you, your usual cooking time, and what you like or would rather avoid.

The list of things to avoid has the strongest effect on your suggestions: an ingredient placed there will no longer be proposed.

How do I turn off vibrations?

Under My settings, open Haptic feedback and switch it off. The light vibrations that accompany your actions stop immediately.

How do I sign out?

At the bottom of My settings, tap Sign out. Your lists and preferences stay attached to your account and will be there next time you sign in.

How do I delete my account and my data?

Deletion happens right inside the app, in two taps, with no need to write to us.

  1. Open the home screen and tap the settings icon to reach My settings.
  2. Scroll to the very bottom and tap Delete my account.
  3. Confirm: your account and associated data are permanently deleted.

The action cannot be undone and takes your lists, savings history, favourites and preferences with it. An active subscription must be cancelled separately in iOS Settings, since Apple manages it. If you can't get into the app, write to us from your account's email address and we'll take care of it.

What data do you collect?

Only what the app needs to work: your email address, your first name, your stores, your preferences and your lists. The app asks for neither your location, nor your camera, nor your photos.

Face ID can be used to secure your session on your device. Full details are in our privacy policy.

Do you sell my data?

No. We don't sell personal information. Our revenue comes from subscriptions, which spares us from having to monetize your privacy.

Troubleshooting

The messages you might run into, and what to do about them.

“We lost the connection for a second.”

The app couldn't reach our servers. Check your Wi-Fi or cellular data, then try again.

Grocery aisles are notorious dead zones: checking off ingredients keeps working, and syncing resumes as soon as the signal comes back.

“Session expired or access denied.”

Your session reached the end of its validity. Tap Sign out in My settings, then sign back in and everything falls into place.

My home screen is empty, no suggestions appear.

If the app says your suggestions are being built, it simply needs a little material: select your stores and add a first recipe.

If the message is No store selected, go back to the home screen and pick at least one banner under Where do you shop?

My list stops at ten ingredients.

That's the free version's limit after the trial. The rest of the list is kept, only hidden: unlock the full list to get it all back.

How do I report a bug or a price error?

Write to us. For a price error, mention the store, the product and the week; for a bug, describe what you were doing when it happened.

These messages are read one by one and feed straight into our fixes.
